ELIZA is a computer program named after Eliza Doolittle and developed at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory by Joseph Weizenbaum between 1964 and 1966 with the aim of emulating a Rogerian psychotherapist. It represents one of the first of attempts to use software to create conversational responses from text inputs.
